CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

Cape Town marks the half way point of our cruise and it is one of my favourite ports on our itinerary. Beautiful city and beautiful location with the magnificent one million year old Table Rock as its backdrop, not to mention the many lovely wineries not far out in the countryside.

We had three days here with a lovely Around the World special event at the Boschendal Winery in the wine region of Franschhoek Valley in the western cape which dates back to 1685 and has been maintained by generations of families. Farm to table food, Boschendal’s fine wines, music of a Marimba band all made for a lovely afternoon. Another day I did a tour to the Stellenbosch area where we visited several wineries, including Verlegen & Morgenster and had more delightful wines and delicious eats at each one.

Morgenster Estate has fine wines and my favourite was their Sangiovese Rose. The estate is modern yet beautiful.
Verlegen on the other hand, with it’s beautiful old architecture and grounds that could rival any botanical garden was stunning. Their wines were also very good.
We had an opportunity to taste and compare some very good olive oils too.

We had a fun evening at Gold Restaurant. Billed as an African taste safari, it did not disappoint. Music and native dress, food and dance, it was a treat for the eyes, ears and taste buds.

    1. Thanks Terry. I picked the dress up somewhere along the way and it seemed somewhat appropriate for an African evening.

    1. Yes it is a beautiful area to visit. One nice thing about these cruises, you know where you would go back again to visit and where you would not.

What an adventure! We loved SA when we were there several years ago. We were amazed at how old some of the architecture was. Canada is a newbie in comparison.
When do you ac get back!

    1. Yes Jacquie it is certainly a wonderful adventure. Canada certainly is a youngster in the scheme of things. I get back mid July and I am right into a kitchen Reno. The crates are sitting in the condo as I write.

  6. This is definitely yet another journey of a life time. I am so fortunate to be able to do this. It is a wonderful way to see the world and who knows when we may not be able to visit these places again either re health or politics. Look at Russia and during this trip China, Peru and Myanmar ports were all cancelled because of politics. Thanks goodness I have visited all of those ports, but many people on board were disappointed.
