Right now it is monsoon season in this part of the world, and the weather is HOT & HUMID!! The temperatures are in the high 90s, but with the humidity it feels like 110, and you are soaked from the skin out and hair is dripping in a matter of minutes once you step outside. Thank God for air conditioned buses and shopping malls and of course the ship.
We are back on track now with stops in Sabang, Indonesia, Langkawi, Malaysia, Phuket, Thailand, Penang, Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Singapore.
Setting foot on Kilometer 0 near Sabang is one experience to have when visiting Weh Island. It is built right at the point where the country starts geographically. Rice is the main staple for so many countries in Asia. Some eat it three times a day, with fish – with curry, with meat. At this rice garden we learned all about how they grow rice, the water system where it grows and how it is harvested. This youngster (5 yers old) at the elephant camp in Phuket was having so much fun splashing around in the water and it was so hot, I wanted to join him. So adorable. Every once in awhile he would stop and look at his trainer to make sure he was OK and then fall back into the water again. The beautiful Wat Chalong temple near Phuket, otherwise known as Wat Chai Thararam. It is a Buddhist Temple and very basically Buddhists believe in reincarnation. If you do good things during this life, you will return again. When you die you are cremated and every temple has a crematorium. Temples also dispense medicine made from ancient recipes and natural herbs, called Temple Medicine.Lots of champagne and laughter!!And I even had my own ‘self portrait’ wine labels (thanks to a Xmas gift from Rob). Kuala Lumpur‘s iconic Petronas Towers are 1483 feet tall. Hawker Chan’s Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle restaurant in Singapore has lost its Michelin star. I’m not sure why, but the restaurant and the food was rather underwhelming!! I’m glad we went though. It was an experience.Great mural on a wall across the street from Hawker Chan’s. You could crouch down and make it look like you were sitting on the chairs in the mural with the artist. Cool!!I’m with Cella & Leslie at the top of the Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore and we had such a fun evening. First of all you had to pay $30 to go up in the elevator to the top floor. But then they let you apply that fee to your food and beverages. Wine was almost a $100 for a bottle, so we just put all our tickets against that. Then it turned out that Wednesday night is ladies night and after 10:30 you got free champagne. All that and a light show too! Bonus!!
