RAMBLING ON IN ASIA…

The cruise has been going well and we have been so fortunate with the weather. There have been a few changes, ie Peru was taken off the list and also Myanmar, both because of political unrest in those countries at the time we were supposed to be there. I am “a little” behind in my blogs. Word Press has not been working as well as in the past and I am not really sure who is getting my blogs. One friend told me there were never any photos included, and I always have photos. Of course wifi on board has been spotty and slow. But, aside from that there never seems to be enough hours in the day. There is just so much to do on board and so much to see in the countries we are visiting, that blogging sometimes takes a back seat. And partying!! And sleep!!

After Kathmandu, our next stop was Colombo, the capital Sri Lanka, or as it was known in the past, Ceylon. I suppose there are good reasons for a country changing its name, but honestly, I like Ceylon much better and the same for Burma! I always think Myanmar sounds like a plastic while the old names conjure up romance and intrigue.

Picking tea in in Sri Lanka. The most expensive tea is “silver tips” at $150 for 100 grams. These ladies lay that little pole across the plants and only pick the leaves that are above the pole.

Myanmar was replaced with four new ports. Port Blair in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India, Sabang, Indonesia, Langkawi, Malaysia. In retrospect we were lucky to have taken Myanmar off the list because at about the same time we were supposed to be there a huge monsoon hit the area doing a lot of damage. It was the same monsoon we outran coming out of Port Blair.

The beautiful Ghandi statue facing to the sea in downtown Port Blair. A contrast to the Jail where the freedom fighter prisoners were tortured.
